James Fisher Energy Bubble Curtain Monitoring Project

VX570

Customer Overview

James Fisher Energy is a global provider of critical services across the offshore oil and gas lifecycle, from well services and production support through to decommissioning and asset recovery.

The Challenge

During offshore operations in Asia in 2026, James Fisher Energy was tasked with supplying compressed air to a bubble curtain system. As part of the contract requirements, the customer needed to accurately measure and verify the airflow being delivered throughout the operation.

The key requirements were:

  • To provide reliable airflow measurement across multiple compressor packages.
  • To demonstrate compliance with contractual air supply obligations.
  • To deliver continuous monitoring and reporting to the main contractor.
  • To operate reliably in a demanding offshore environment.

The Flowhire Solution

To meet these requirements, James Fisher Energy selected six CS Instruments VX570 Vortex Flow Meters supplied by Flowhire.

The flow meters were installed across a package consisting of 18 x 3100 CFM air compressors. Local operators were able to monitor flow rates directly via the meter displays, while all units were simultaneously connected to a central data logging system located on the vessel bridge.

This setup enabled:

  • Real-time flow verification.
  • Centralised data collection.
  • Accurate reporting to the main contractor.
  • Independent validation of air supply performance.

Implementation

The project required dependable instrumentation capable of operating continuously offshore while providing accurate and repeatable measurement data.

The flow meters delivered the performance required, allowing James Fisher Energy to monitor airflow throughout the operation and generate documented evidence of compliance with contract specifications.

The Flowhire team worked closely with James Fisher Energy to ensure the equipment arrived on time to meet the project timeline.

Results

The installation successfully demonstrated that the required airflow was being delivered to the bubble curtain system during operations.

Key Benefits

  • Accurate verification of compressed air flow rates.
  • Demonstrated compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Continuous monitoring and centralised data logging.
  • Reliable performance in an offshore environment.
  • Clear evidence of system performance for the end client.
  • Enhanced confidence in operational reporting and project delivery.

Scott Berry, Head of E & I at James Fisher Energy said “The VX570 flow meters proved the air supply was being delivered as required and demonstrated the performance of our equipment compared to competitor offerings. We were also supported by the Flowhire team throughout the process, including during the delivery phase.”
