New products for 2010!

Flowhire hire are adding yet more flow meters and flow metering systems to their portfolio. Flowhire are currently awaiting delivery of their new 2" high pressure turbine flowmeters to meet the demands of their offshore clients. The new turbine flowmeters will be capable of measuring liquid flows of up to 1500 l/min and pressures of 15'000 psi sweet and 10'000psi sour service. These new flowmeters will also be ATEX certified for use in hazardous areas. End connections will be fig.1502 hammer unions.

Endress and Hausers Prowirl 73 Mass Vortex Flowmeters are also now in stock, the Prowirl 73 vortex meters have built in pressure compensation and can therefore display the mass flow rate and total consumption of saturated steam. The new steam meters are available from Flowhire in sizes 4" 6" and 8". Applications in smaller pipes will be covered by Flowhires existing vortex flow metering systems.

Need to calibrate vessels, load cells or weighing systems?

Flowhire are currently developing their new 'mass flow batching systems. The new batching systems will utilise the highly accurate Promass 83F Coriolis Mass Flowmeters from Endress & Hauser, Contrec batch controller and a 2 stage closure valve assembly. Wetted parts will be stainless steel with Tri-clamp hygienic fittings. These new systems will replace Flowhires existing batching systems, will have improved accuracy and be far easier to use and handle enabling the user to accurately batch preset amounts of water with an accuracy of better than 0.1%, the new systems will be available for hire from May 2010.

Due to current demand Flowhire are awaiting delivery of further Katflow 200 flowmeters from Katronic. The Katflow 200 flowmeters are a simple, clamp-on portable flowmeter that have been highly popular since they were introduced to the hire fleet last year.

Other meters recently added to the hire fleet are 'Promass 83 I' full bore straight tube Coriolis mass flowmeters and further electromagnetic 'magflow' flowmeters, these are now available for rental in sizes 2mm to 350mm (14").

Flowhire currently have the largest range of flow meters and flow metering systems for hire in Europe.

Flowhire further expand their hire fleet to include the new Katflow 200 ultrasonic 'clamp-on' Flowmeter

Due to increased customer demand Flowhire are currently expanding their hire fleet to include the new KATflow 200 ultrasonic flowmeter.

The KATflow 200 will be added to the fleet to complement Flowhire's extensive range of Kaflow 220 Ultrasonic Flowmeters.

The new flow meters have been highly specified by Flowhire to include extended 100'000 point data loggers and dual sensor sets to cover pipes of 10mm to 3000mm diameter. Furthermore each kit is supplied complete with an integral ultrasonic pipe wall thickness gauge at no extra cost.

The KATflow 200 is a hand-held device designed for quick non-invasive spot measurements throughout plants, buildings and pipe systems. The set-up of the unit is simple through a wizard-like guided menu structure. Therefore flow measurements can be obtained quickly. This flowmeter is light-weight and can be carried to inaccessable locations easily.

Air flow measurement provides data to aid energy reduction programme.

Like many companies in the UK and Europe, Northpoint, a UK market leader in the supply of powder coating solutions, are experiencing increasing costs for energy and have committed to reducing energy consumption.

Northpoint Director, Philip Dawson explains, "We use compressed air to operate one of the largest powder coating facilities in Europe and decided to target this form of energy after successfully reducing water use earlier in the year. As with any project of this nature, it is important to measure how much air is being used, where the use is and the times at which it is used."

"To provide the data upon which commercially sound decisions can be taken, we hired two air flowmeter systems from Flowhire. The flowmeters were installed at different locations around the plant to record flow, pressure and temperature."

New small bore Coriolis Mass Flow Meters, now available for hire!

Flowhire have further increased their hire fleet to include the Promass 83A Coriolis Mass flowmeter. The Promass A is a single-tube system for highly accurate measurement of very small flows. Currently available from Flowhire in 4mm, 2mm and 1mm, these are the smallest flowmeters available for hire anywhere in the world!

The meters are already being used for testing a specialist LPG dosing system for improving efficiency on HGV diesel engines.

Other applications include;

Filling and dosing of very small flows.
Extremely accurate measurement of liquids and gases such as emulsions, additives, flavouring, insulin, gases for high pressure and low pressure
Fluid temperatures up to +200 �C
Process pressures up to 400 bar

New High Pressure Gas Metering Systems

At the request of their offshore clients Flowhire have recently developed their new high pressure gas metering systems.

Specifically designed for applications such as pipeline dewatering and purging, the systems are fitted with 1502 hammer unions and suitable for air and nitrogen at pressures of up to 160 bar.

Being Exd rated the systems are suitable for hazardous area zone 2 applications

Flowhire chose to use the latest Endress and Hauser Prowirl vortex flow meters and the new 500 series flow computer from Contrec providing a digital display of corrected volume flow rate, totalised flow, Mass flow, pressure and temperature.

The first two systems have already been contracted and are currently being used during a 3 month project off the coast of Egypt.

Flowmetering applications get Hire & Hire!

Flowhire Ltd, the UK’s specialist flowmeter and flowmetering systems hire company are currently upgrading their gas and steam metering systems to incorporate Contrec’s new 500 series flow computer. For over 10 years Flowhire’s systems have incorporated Contrec flow computers.

Manager of Flowhire Mr Matthew Bancroft said, “the Contrec range of instruments have proved to be unparalleled in providing our customers with accurate results and uncompromised reliability”.

The all new 500 series has an advanced operating system, programmable input/output circuits and MODBUS communications. The instrument has a level of flexibility to meet just about any flow application, regardless of the complexity.

The new instruments were supplied by Flowquip Ltd who are the UK distributor for Contrec Instrumentation.

Improving Steam Distribution

Yarn spinners and dyers, Buckfast Spinning Co (Part of the Axminster Carpet Group) recently installed three of flowHIRE's vortex based hire steam metering systems.

Buckfast's Chief Engineer, Barry Steer takes up the story.

"The primary purpose of the hire was to map the distribution of steam throughout the Buckfast site as a study to ascertain the feasibility for an energy saving scheme. The data sampling period was four weeks, this we felt was a good sampling of the production levels in our three dye houses. The three meters were positioned in our main steam lines using on site preconstructed kits of parts to facilitate speedy installation. This took about six hours in total using three engineers. Connection of the flow computers and data logger was simple in the extreme owing to the pre-labelling of the connections by Flowhire. Commissioning the meters was achieved with the minimum of drama".

"As an interesting bonus to the original purpose of the hire, the very sensitive metering provided by the hire equipment highlighted a fault in one of the line reducers which had not been shown by our own equipment, this was quickly corrected, improving steam flow to that area of the mill."

The flowmeters used were FlowHIRE vortex meters supplied in meter runs with temperature and pressure transmitters and flow computers. A paperless recorder with datalogging facility was used to collect the data which could then be further analysed on a standard PC.
